The High Flying Career of Dr. Scott Rocklage

Dr. Scott Rocklage, PhD has been a Managing Partner at 5AM since 2004. He joined the company in 2003 working as a Venture Partner. He has been in health management for over three decades. To this end, he has held strategic leadership responsibilities in several organizations.

This is evident in that he led a team which developed new applications for Teslacan®, Cubicin®, and Omniscan™ drugs. The FDA later approved these new drug applications. Previously, Dr Rocklage served as the Chairman as well as Chief Executive Officer of Cubist Pharmaceuticals. He also worked as the President and CEO of the Nycomed Salutar Company.

Additionally, he also held multiple Research and Development positions at both the Catalytica and Saluter. He also sits at the Whitehead Institute Board of Associates. This is a non-profit research and educational institutions for biomedical research.

Dr. Rocklage attended the University of California Berkeley and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He also graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a PhD in Chemistry.

He carried his PhD research at the Richard R. Schrock’s laboratory. This is a prestigious laboratory owned by Schrock who won the 2005 Chemistry Nobel Prize.

At 5AM Ventures, his duties include working with entrepreneurs be it physicians, scientists or business executives thus assisting them to shape their ideas into medicines which can treat the unmet medical needs.

Dr. Rocklage is well organized concerning calendaring, prioritization and time management which he considers as important habits that make him productive.

He notes that targeting specific genotypes or specific mutations to create cancer is a current trend which he is excited about. He views this as a unique approach to treating cancer with the possibility of saving and extending lives. He also advises entrepreneurs, to be courageous in taking measured risks.

His major accomplishments include that he has authored more than one hundred peer-reviewed publications. He is also an inventor and participated in co-inventing more than thirty US patents.

He is thus considered as an influential personality in the healthcare management sector in the United States. He now lives in Boston.
